Why Choose us for Your Ear Wax Removal?
Ear wax removal can instantly fix your muffled or dull hearing and when completed by an HCPC-registered audiologist is generally pain-free.
By choosing Kensington Hearing you are ensuring that you see a qualified and regulated hearing care professional and not an unregulated “ear wax technician”. Ensuring that you receive the best standard of care for your ear health.
An audiologist will also be able to help you in the event your hearing issue is not caused by ear wax, exploring your symptoms further and providing a care pathway.
With microsuction, there is no need to oil your ears before attending your appointment. However a few drops of olive oil the night before your appointment can be helpful.
We will take a detailed medical history of your ear and explain in detail what to expect from the procedure.
Using a video otoscope you will be shown the wax in your ear canal before treatment and then your clean canal and ear drum afterwards.
In most instances, your wax will be gently microsuctioned away. In some cases, patients may prefer manual extraction or irrigation, both of which we provide.
Once your canals are unblocked and clear of wax we recommend keeping your ears dry for 72 hours afterwards to let the ears build up a small amount of protective wax.
We offer a fixed price of £65.00 for one or both ears. Additionally, in the rare event of follow-up appointments being necessary, you will not incur any extra costs

Our ear Wax Removal Process
At Kensington Hearing, we prioritise safety, comfort, and efficacy in our ear wax removal process. Our process follows a step-by-step approach designed to restore your hearing with minimum discomfort.
-
Initial Ear Examination
We will look inside your ear with a tool called an otoscope to see how much wax is inside. The otoscope helps us look closer and find out if there is a lot of earwax.
-
Choice of Procedure
Our audiologists will choose the best way to remove your earwax. They'll tell you how it works and what you can expect. Microsuction is usually the method we use. It doesn't hurt.
-
Ear Wax Removal Treatment
The actual removal process is carried out with utmost care and precision. We ensure your comfort throughout the procedure, which typically takes between 5 to 10 minutes.
-
After Care
After clearing the ear wax, we check your ear canal again to make sure your ear is healthy and free of wax. You should not go swimming or get your ears wet for three days after the treatment.
Ear removal Pricing
At Kensington Hearing, we prioritise your needs and offer transparent pricing.
With our pricing structure, you only pay for the necessary treatment. Our services include free follow-ups and referral letters as standard.

Our professional Ear Wax removal methods
We only provide the best in class methods of ear wax removal. Our expert HCPC-registered audiologists will ensure the right treatment for your ears.

Microsuction
Microsuction is a safe, efficient, and pain-free way to remove ear wax. Considered the safest method in ear wax treatments, our trained audiologists will gently use a medical-grade suction unit to remove the wax from your ear canal. Your hearing can be instantly restored.

Irrigation
Irrigation is a suitable alternative treatment for some shapes of ear canals and for removing liquid-like ear wax from canal walls. Our trained experts can use irrigation techniques to remove wax from your ear and restore hearing gently.

Manual Extraction
During manual extraction, one of our trained audiologists will use a curette or forceps to gently hook and remove wax from the ear canal. It's an ideal treatment for patients sensitive to noise, including those with hyperacusis or tinnitus triggered by loud sounds.

GP Referral
Our affordable fixed-price audiology services include follow-ups and referral letters. Not every hearing loss or blocked ear is caused by ear wax and sometimes require medical attention. Where required we are able to refer you to your GP directly at no extra cost.

Common Question
Naturally, you may have questions about your ear wax, below are some of the most frequently asked questions.
If you have a question related to our services or your upcoming appointment, please do call or email and we will be happy to help.
Why cleaning your ears is Necessary?
While ear wax plays a vital role in maintaining ear health, excessive amounts can lead to several issues, including hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), earache, and infection.
This is particularly prevalent in individuals who use hearing aids or earplugs regularly, as these can push wax deeper into the ear canal, leading to impaction.
Impacted ear wax can cause a blockage in the ear canal, leading to a temporary reduction in hearing.
Kensington Hearing has a team of highly skilled, HCPC-registered audiologists who are trained to perform this procedure with utmost precision and care, ensuring your comfort and safety at all stages.

Frequently Asked Questions By Our Patients
Kensington Hearing is your trusted audiology clinic in the heart of London. We understand that hearing and balance disorders can significantly impact your quality of life, and we’re here to help. Here are some common questions we receive from our patients and visitors:
What is Ear Wax and why does it need to be removed?
Ear wax, or cerumen, is a natural substance the body produces to protect the ear canal from damage and infection.
Why Do We Need to Remove Ear wax?
Excessive earwax build-up can lead to discomfort and interfere with normal hearing function because it blocks sound waves from reaching the ear drum. At Kensington Hearing, we provide professional earwax removal services that are safe, efficient, and tailored to your specific needs.
What is the process of removing wax?
Our process begins with a detailed examination of your ear using an otoscope. Based on our assessment, we select the most suitable method for wax removal. The actual removal process is carried out with utmost care and precision and typically takes between 15 to 30 minutes. After the removal, we conduct another examination to confirm that all the wax has been cleared, and your ear canal is healthy.
What methods of ears cleaning do you use at Kensington Hearing?
We use a variety of methods including microsuction, irrigation, and manual extraction. The choice of procedure is based on the type of wax and the shape of your ear canal. All our procedures are conducted by fully qualified audiologists registered with the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).
What is microsuction and how does it work?
Microsuction is a safe, efficient, and pain-free way to remove ear wax. Our trained audiologists will gently use a medical-grade suction unit to remove the wax from your ear canal. Your hearing can be instantly restored.
What is the cost of cleaning wax?
We offer fixed costs of £50 for one ear or £80 for both ears. In the rare event that follow-ups are needed, they are provided free of charge.
Should I use olive oil drops before the appointment?
Utilising olive oil drops prior to your appointment can aid in softening the ear wax, and although it is not strictly required, it could enhance the effectiveness of the wax removal process. Without the aid of olive oil, we can still manage to clean the majority of our ears during the initial visit.
What is your Hearing Care guarantee?
At Kensington Hearing, we offer a satisfaction guarantee: if we’re unable to complete your ear wax removal on the first visit, subsequent visits to clear your ear are absolutely free of charge.
Where is Kensington Hearing located?
We are conveniently located at 58-60 Kensington Church St, London W8 4DB. We are just a short walk away from Notting Hill Gate station & Kensington High St Station.
How can I book an appointment for Ear Wax removal?
You can book an appointment by calling our clinic at 020 7459 4306 or through our website. We also offer home visits around the surrounding Boroughs for those who prefer treatment at home.
